TikTok Shop Malaysia is revising its commission rates from 00:00 on 31 October 2026. For most sellers the rate goes up: the exact moment you’re about to do your highest volume of the quarter. If you price your mega-sale offers on last month’s numbers, you’ll discount against a margin that no longer exists.
What’s changing
From 31 October, TikTok Shop Malaysia revises both Marketplace and Mall commission fees. From TikTok’s own Seller Center rate table:
- Most sub-categories go up. Skincare, womenswear, beauty, home, electronics and many others move higher.
- A few go down. Feminine care, several health lines (medical supplies, OTC medications) and nursing & feeding are lower.
- Core food staples stay at 0%. Baking, fresh & frozen, milk & dairy, and staples & cooking essentials remain free; pantry food is unchanged.
- A new category appears: beer, wine & spirits now has a listed rate.
The mechanics matter as much as the number. Commission is charged as (item price − your seller discount) × your category rate, it’s SST-inclusive, and it differs by Marketplace vs Mall and by BXP vs non-BXP. Shipping fees and TikTok’s own platform discounts are excluded from the calculation. Orders placed before 31 October keep the current rate so the switch bites on your campaign-day volume, not your October warm-up. And it’s still commission-based: no new flat, listing or monthly charge was added.
Why this matters
A commission change always sounds small “it’s only a couple of points.”
But it doesn’t move uniformly. Because it’s category-level, the brand next to you might get cheaper while you get more expensive. If you sell beauty or fashion, assume up. If you’re in feminine care, certain health lines or nursing & feeding, you may have just been handed a margin gift that most sellers in those categories won’t even notice.
And it doesn’t arrive alone. PayLater orders moved to 4.86% from 16 October, GMV Max is already auto-reinvesting around 5% of your GMV (3% for electronics) back into ads, and BXP campaign-day rates run higher during Payday and Double Day windows. Stack those together and “price on vibes” becomes genuinely dangerous going into the biggest sale weeks of the year.
Calculate your TikTok Shop pricing and stacking
- Pull your exact number. Open Seller Center and read the before-and-after rate for your specific sub-category: Marketplace or Mall, BXP or non-BXP. Don’t trust a blog’s table; categories move in different directions.
- Reprice backward from margin. Work out your contribution margin at the new commission before you set prices and vouchers. Remember commission is on (price − your discount), so deep voucher stacking changes the maths twice.
- Check if you got lucky. If you’re in one of the categories going down, you may be able to afford a slightly sharper offer than a competitor who didn’t read the notice.
- Decide your PayLater and BXP stance knowingly. Offer them if the volume is worth the higher rate.
