Two new LIVE promo tools are rolling out on TikTok Shop, and most Malaysian sellers will either ignore them or switch them on without a plan. Both are mistakes. Group Deal and Price Cut are not buttons you press for a discount. They are ways to change how a LIVE room behaves, and the sellers who structure them properly are going to out-sell the ones who just go live and talk.
With a mega sale like 11.11 in front of us, this is the moment to set them up. But these are not one-day tools. They work for 12.12, Raya, payday sales, and any ordinary LIVE you run after. Here is what they are, and how we actually run them.
What the two tools do
Group Deal lets viewers unlock a better price by buying together in small groups during your LIVE. Price Cut lets you drop a product’s price in visible rounds while the stream is running, so the audience watches the price fall in real time.
The reason they work is not the discount. It is the behaviour they create. Group Deal makes buyers recruit each other in your comments. Price Cut gives people a reason to stay instead of scrolling away, because leaving means missing the next drop. On a normal LIVE your biggest enemy is people clicking off. These two tools are built to hold the room.
What the numbers say (TikTok’s own cases)
TikTok has shared results from sellers running these, and the pattern is worth reading before you plan your own.
On Group Deal, a Singapore women’s bags seller saw orders per hour jump 134%, LIVE GMV up 82%, and average concurrent viewers up 71%. Group Deal made up nearly 65% of their total LIVE GMV. The detail I find most useful: 45 groups formed, average group-formation time around 36 seconds, and a 93% successful payment rate. Small groups, formed fast, paid for.
On Price Cut, a Malaysian refurbished-computers seller drove average concurrent viewers up 145%, LIVE GMV up 144%, and show time per hour up 108%, running three Price Cuts inside one hour. One leading refurbished laptop made up 61% of their Price Cut GMV.
How to Execute This Strategy
The headline numbers get shared a lot. What nobody explains is how the hour was built. This is where the money is.
For Group Deal, keep the groups small. Three people is the sweet spot the cases point to, because a group of three forms in under a minute and people will actually chase two friends in the comments. Spend the first ten minutes of the LIVE teaching, not selling: show the product, answer the one question everyone asks, and tell them exactly how the group buy works. Then let the room drive it. Ask viewers to vote in comments on which product goes on Group Deal next, and announce every successful group out loud the second it completes. That live announcement is the engine. It tells everyone still watching that this is working, so they form the next one.
For Price Cut, the rule is visualise everything. Do not just lower a price quietly. Show the old price, show the drop, say the new price out loud, and keep that product pinned at the top of your LIVE between rounds so late arrivals land straight on it. Plan your rounds in advance: a first cut to get attention, a second to convert the fence-sitters, a third near the end for the people who waited. Run a small giveaway during the Price Cut window so nobody leaves while you reset for the next round. The whole design is about keeping viewers in the room between drops, because concurrent viewers are what make the next cut land hard.
Put simply: Group Deal is for making buyers recruit buyers. Price Cut is for holding the room long enough to sell to all of them.
How to get set up before your next big LIVE
Check your eligibility for both tools in Seller Center now, not on the morning of your biggest sale. Pick two or three products you have real stock and real margin on, because a tool that drives triple-digit order lifts is only good news if you can fulfil and still make money. Then rehearse one practice LIVE first. The first time you run Group Deal rounds and Price Cut rounds should not be on the biggest sales day of the season. Eligibility, exact mechanics and availability can change, so confirm the live details in your own Seller Center before you build your plan around them.
